If All Goes Wrong 2 Disc DVD Release
November 12, 2008
“If All Goes Wrong,” The Smashing Pumpkins 2 disc documentary, was released yesterday, November 11th. The highly anticipated film, at a staggering 271 minutes in length, takes account of The Smashing Pumpkins stay at one of the top venues in the US – The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC.
Sounds simple enough, but apparently the DVD also chronicles Billy Corgan’s struggle to stay in the limelight with a new lineup and new material. The first disc contains the documentary, an interview with The Who’s Pete Townshend and “Voices of the Ghost Children” – a short film about Smashing Pumpkins fan. The second disc contains over a dozen new songs performed during the Orange Peel residency.
According to POP Matters, “as the film rolls on, context gradually emerges, the energy picks up, and soon we are in fact getting a multi-faceted look at Billy Corgan the Songwriter, Billy Corgan the Band Leader, and—of course—Billy Corgan the Megalomaniac.”
And what can you expect from a newly reformed Smashing Pumpkins? According to POP Matters, “Dylan-esque folk songs at an almost Pollard-esque pace,” It is clear that the Smashing Pumpkins of 2008 are quite different from the Smashing Pumpkins of the 90’s but one thing will always ring true, this band revolves around Corgan’s visions. So when you purchase those Smashing Pumpkins tickets, don’t think that you won’t experience a bit of that 90’s nostalgia, the Smashing Pumpkins do pay homage to thier gilded beginnings, just expect to hear another facet of Corgan.
